WHO IS TEAM DEBO?

team deboWe are Zack and Farrel DeBaltzo and we are newlyweds who are passionate about spreading our message of how faith, food and fitness changes lives! We live in Texas with our 13-year-old furbaby, Biscuit, and we love Jesus Christ, each other, beach days, road trips, live music, college football and spending time with those who mean the most to us. But what you would never know by simply meeting us is that we were both born with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic terminal illness that primarily affects the respiratory and digestive systems of only 70,000 people worldwide…And one that our parents were told would kill us by the ages of 8 and 18. To date, the average life expectancy of CF patients is 41 years old; There is no cure.

team deboWe met in October 2014 in a Facebook Cystic Fibrosis forum when we realized that we shared the belief that fitness and nutrition play a huge role in keeping those living with our chronic illness healthier for longer; We met for the first time in July 2015; And we were married in July 2016 on our one-year anniversary on Anna Maria Island in Florida. Zack, 31, a CrossFit trainer despite his 40% baseline lung function, reached thousands with his inspirational story when CrossFit HQ filmed a short documentary about his life with CF and featured it on their worldwide social media. Farrel, 34, an avid foodie and an author in the making, has overcome insurmountable odds and is penning her story of heartache turned redemption into an autobiography due out in 2018. Both have been involved in the CF community for years as keynote speakers at numerous Cystic Fibrosis Foundation events and fundraisers toward the cure.

Together, as Team Debo for Cystic Fibrosis, we strive to encourage others everyone around us, especially others with chronic illness, to fight using faith, food and fitness…And we aspire to spend as many years as God gives us defying the odds and proving that love really is the cure for everything.
